Customized Tuscany workshopI was born in Chianciano Terme, and when I was in my teens, I rode my bike around Val d’Orcia every day. I know the area like the back of my hand. When I grew up, I began travelling and discovered my love for photography, so I moved to New York and studied at the International Center of Photography. While there, I undertook a three-month internship in the archive department at Magnum. Then I moved back to Italy and started collaborating with the Contrasto photo agency.

I have always been attracted to different cultures, and I satiate my curiosity through photography, travelling around the world, and meeting incredible people. I have worked frequently in Africa with UNICEF Italy. The Australian Photojournalist, Vanity Fair, El Pays Semanal, Sport Week and many other magazines have published my stories. My work has appeared in photography festivals such as Fotonoviembre, Biennial of Photography, Tenerife, and Visa pour l’Image, Perpignan, France. In 2006 my first book, Lost Angels, won first prize in the book category at the International Photography Award.

Now I am back in Tuscany and, in addition to working on assignments with Contrasto, I run photography workshops. They are great fun and an opportunity to meet more wonderful people while taking pictures of this marvellous land.

WHY TAKE A WORKSHOP IN TUSCANY WITH ALFREDO?

As a native of this area, my idea for these photography workshops emerged from my familiarity with both the land and the people who make it memorable. Photographing the local landscapes is very fulfilling: this is one of Italy’s most photogenic areas. However, having the chance to photograph the people who live and work here is what makes your experience with me unique. At the same time, you will learn to use your camera in different situations, as taking a photo of a landscape requires different skills than photographing a farmer milking his sheep. The light is different, the framing is different, the subject is different. My experience as a photographer and background as a storyteller and reportage photographer feed into my workshops, and you will go home not only with landscape photography but also with the stories that your images narrate.

My best advice? Take one of my workshops at the beginning of your holiday, so that you can practice what you learned in the days that follow.

THE WORKSHOPS’ WEEKLY PROGRAMME

The workshops are available every day from March to November. For each day of the week, I have scheduled different programmes in different locations, focusing on varied subjects and times of the day. We dedicate ourselves, however, to exploring the stunning and breathtaking Val d’Orcia area, which lies at the heart of Tuscany. Medieval villages abound, some of which we will capture photographically.

Here is our workshop schedule:

  • Monday: Photography workshop at a winery
  • Tuesday: San Quirico and Vitaleta
  • Wednesday: Italian garden and Montichiello
  • Thursday: Crete Senesi and Asiano
  • Friday: Sunrise and Val d’Orcia
  • Saturday: Photography in Val d’Orcia
  • Sunday: Cheese producer and Val d’Orcia

-The duration of each workshop is between 5 and 7 hours.

-Guaranteed departure with a minimum of 2 people and a maximum of 8 per group.
-Prices start from 285,00 AUD per person per workshop.

PORTRAIT PHOTOGRAPHY

Who wouldn’t want an exclusive and personal memento of their Italian holiday? In addition to workshops, I am delighted to offer portrait photography on location. My portraits have appeared in major magazines, and I have photographed Ken Follet (writer), Elio Germano (actor), Daniele Vicari (filmmaker), Dominic Sebag-Montefiore (Savile Row tailor), and Mario Isola (Pirelli racing manager), among many others. A portrait session takes two hours, and you will receive twenty professionally retouched images and a memory that will last forever. If you are on holiday with your family, friends, or loved one and wish to bring home a unique keepsake, I invite you to contact us.
